on january 4, 2005, i decided to make a trip back to a place where i used to go regularly when i was a kid between the ages of 7 and 11 -- on frioul island in the bay of marseille -- where my family and i would go in the summers. during my trip on the shuttle-boat from the old harbour to frioul, i took a few pictures but didn't record any sound. i started to record after i arrived on the island -- wandering around the harbour and a variety of familiar spots which reminded me of my childhood. then i walked through the "calanques" alternating picture-taking and sound-recording. in the end, i explored the entire island to gather sounds for this compilation.
